Ford joins the ranks of internationally renowned companies that have made an entry into the NFT and Web3.0 space with new trademark registrations. The American car company filed 19 new trademark applications to cover virtual automobiles and online retail services. As more companies are getting involved with NFT projects, unique IP concerns are expected to follow soon.

In 2021, the IPO received a record 196,639 trade mark applications, a 43.5% increase from 2020 which was the previous record year for trade mark applications [1]. Both the number of applications and trade marks registered have been consistently rising since 2011. As the numbers continue to grow in 2022 we can observe a number of trends that continue to influence the world of IP rights.

Ghana’s music festival Afrochella is accused of trademark infringement in a lawsuit filed by organizers of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. This is not the first Goldenvoice, the company behind Coachella, have appeared in headlines for enforcing its trademarks, showing that music festivals are just as adamant about their intellectual property rights as any other brand.
